Best laid plans … ROAD CLOSED. DETOUR AHEAD. The Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak has unquestionably changed our lives. Al and Terry Reszel, like so many, are not immune to the devastating impact of this unprecedented life event. As days turned to weeks and with the news of the borders closing, Al and Terry Reszel began to reexamine the mere survival of the 2020 Pink Pedals 4 A Cure | Terry’s Ride. After much consternation and evaluation, they made an important decision. The 2020 ride WILL GO ON but the road to help raise awareness and donations for breast cancer research will sadly no longer include passage through The Land Of The Midnight Sun or our neighbors to the north in Canada.
As they travel across America, Al and Terry crisscross 16 states covering 6000-miles in approximately 65 days. A solo bicycle ride for the ages in support of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). And speaking of ages, Al will attempt this colassAL feat at the tender age of 61.
Survival is a common thread in this historic and heroic attempt. Love is the needle and needful thing that weaves the threads together to form a story of determination, courage, and, commitment. Al’s wife Terry, a breast cancer survivor, having already written her chapter of sufferance and stoicism, steps into the multi-faceted role of provider, comforter and, cheerleader as her husband Al saddles up for another herculean effort on the road to help find a cure.
From diagnosis to treatment and beyond, Terry drew strength and stability from Al. Together, Al and Terry forged a path of perseverance, enduring the darkest of times, finding hope and conviction through faith and belief in the love for one another. So many years ago, during that period of doubt and deliberation, Al and Terry found a way to not only withstand the insurmountable challenge ahead of them, they conquered the journey that many of us avoid, on a road less traveled. As they look ahead to Pink Pedals 4 A Cure | Terry’s Ride 2020, Al and Terry once again willingly go forth, passengers of an uncertain future, for the love of those striving to survive and the families that provide sustenance and peace in a turbulent existence. The goal is the same, create awareness and donations to fund breast cancer research, in an endeavor to find a cure.
